European PHD Hydrogen Conference
The European PhD Hydrogen Conference (or EPHyC) is dedicated exclusively to PhD researchers based in Europe who are working on hydrogen-related topics. The 2025 edition will be hosted by Hydrogen Europe Research, the University of Trieste, and the partners of the North Adriatic Hydrogen Valley. It will take place from 9 to 11 April 2025 in Trieste, Italy.
Following the success of its inaugural edition, organised by the BeHyfe team in 2024, the conference will now be held in a different country each year. This rotating location ensures that every event brings fresh perspectives and new opportunities for PhD researchers across Europe.
Organised by PHDs for PHDs, EPHyC serves as a platform for the brightest minds in hydrogen research to connect, share groundbreaking ideas, and explore innovative solutions to global energy challenges.
Hydrogen Europe Research is proud to be involved in the organisation of this unique event, as it aligns perfectly with our mission to support innovation, foster academic excellence, and build a strong network of emerging talent in hydrogen research. By empowering young researchers, we aim to contribute to the development of cutting-edge solutions and the advancement of a sustainable hydrogen economy.

2025 Conference in Trieste
Trieste, situated in northeastern Italy along the Adriatic Sea in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, is a stunning city that beautifully blends Italian and Austro-Hungarian influences, offering a unique cultural experience.
The European PhD Hydrogen Conference will be held in the historic Port of Trieste, an area undergoing revitalization through projects that restore its historic warehouses and introduce museums, art spaces, business hubs, residential developments, and recreational facilities. Notable attractions in the area include the Museo del Mare, the Immaginario Scientifico, and the modern Trieste Convention Center.
In 2025, we will again offer a rich programme, including an icebreaker event, engaging presentations, and a variety of social activities.

2024 Conference in Ghent
The 2024 conference welcomed more than 170 PhD presenters from 87 institutions across 19 countries.
Held in the picturesque city of Ghent, Belgium, at the lively Zebrastraat venue, the event offered a diverse programme that included hydrogen research presentations, keynote speeches, networking opportunities, industry meet-ups, site visits, workshops, and social activities.
