Hydrogen Europe Research and EERA sign MoU to strengthen European research
Hydrogen Europe Research and the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) are strengthening cooperation to advance hydrogen research and innovation across Europe!
Through a Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday evening at the @European Hydrogen Week, the two associations will work together to align research priorities, identify synergies across European energy research and support the development and deployment of clean hydrogen technologies.
The cooperation will focus on:
▪️ European research priorities: contributing to discussions on the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation and the SET Plan.
▪️ Research and technology infrastructures: strengthening collaboration and facilitating transnational access to research facilities.
▪️ Skills and capacity building: identifying skills needs and opportunities to develop training resources for the hydrogen sector.
▪️ Technology evaluation and benchmarking: working towards common performance indicators, testing protocols and assessment methodologies.
▪️ Knowledge exchange: developing joint publications, scientific workshops and foresight activities to support a coordinated European research agenda.
Concerning this new partnership, Nils A. Røkke, EERA Vice-President, stated: ” This MoU brings EERA’s and the SET Plan’s broad energy research expertise closer to Hydrogen Europe Research’s community. Together, we aim to connect research priorities with industrial needs and strengthen hydrogen’s contribution to Europe’s clean energy transition. It also reaffirms our trust in proven frameworks that provide strategic continuity, align public and private priorities, and support the entire hydrogen innovation chain.”
Luigi Crema, Hydrogen Europe Research President, added: “This agreement brings Europe’s hydrogen research community closer to the wider energy research ecosystem at a decisive moment for European competitiveness. As FP10 and the European Competitiveness Fund take shape, our cooperation with EERA will help connect scientific priorities with industrial needs and strengthen coordination through the SET Plan Implementation Working Group on Hydrogen. Together, we can build a more coherent path from fundamental research to deployment, supported by shared research infrastructures, skills and robust technology assessment. Our ambition is to ensure that Europe’s scientific excellence translates into technological leadership and a resilient, integrated energy system.”
By bringing together EERA's Joint Programme of Clean Hydrogen and HER’s network of universities and research & technology organisations, this partnership will help build stronger links across research fields, connect scientific priorities with industrial needs and support a more coordinated approach to Europe’s clean hydrogen ambitions.
